When I was a kid, the first thing that popped into my head when I heard the word Halloween was CANDY!!! Now as a mom, the thought of Halloween approaching can cause minor panic attacks because 1) What are they going to go as? 2) How much is this going to cost me? 3) They are going to be so, so hyper after all that candy!! That anxiety fades when I remember that 4) Pinterest is loaded with adorable and affordable DIY costume ideas and 5) I always steal the good stuff like those scrumptious Reeseโs pumpkins and basically anything containing chocolate ๐
We reached out to our awesome followers requesting costume pics from Halloweens past, and boy did they deliver! If you are feeling stumped, or just love looking at adorable costumes, keep on scrolling — there is so much cuteness in store with these Halloween costume ideas!
We initially called this a contest, so just for grins and giggles, we’ve come up with some silly awards for our favorite costumes.
In the category of Best Child’s Costume with Minimal Expense we have this adorable Baby Yeti. Her clever mama dressed her in clothes she already had and then crocheted some tiny horns. Love it!!!
Next up, for Best Low Budget Costume for Adolescent Boys on the Verge of Being Too Cool for Halloween, we have Rock, Paper, and Scissors from the Thompson boys.
Our next category, Movie-Themed Sibling Costumes was a tie for these precious Danley kiddos and the sweet Blankenship family (and their very crafty mamas!). All of these are such sweet Wizard of Oz costumes!
In our Visit to Disney category, little Liam tied with himself! We have Prince Charming, Mickey Mouse, Jake, Peter Pan, and Donald Duck. And he’s adorable in every one!
In the Cutest Animal category, we have this adorable pink poodle! Her mama Rachel actually adapted this costume from a chicken costume pattern when the poodle costume she wanted was out of stock/super expensive. Great work, Mom!
In the Best Use of a Stroller category, little Stella was a hit as the perfect Cabbage Patch Kid!!
For Best Hot Glue Masterpiece, there was a two-way tie with these two precious versions of the Piรฑata.

I have no idea what face my little Ellery was making. You know that age when they look demented the moment you ask them to say “cheese” – that’s where we were. Also, her best buddy Adelae was the cutest Boo from Monster’s Inc.
The Best Video Game Costume award goes to the Jones family!
In the category of Best Utilization of Stature, we bring you Chad as Buddy the Elf. ?????
In the Fairy Tale category, the Danley siblings make us swoon!
The Glass family, aka Bob Ross and his Happy Little Tree were shoo-ins for Most Creative.
Similar but different than the previous category, we have Most Whimsical. This category is personified by the Gerhardt family who went as Animals Attending a Fancy Party.
We had a two-way tie in the category of Best Use of a Pregnant Belly. We just could not pick a favorite between Chef with Bun in the Oven Wife and Construction Crew with Bump Ahead.
For Best Use of Latex Nipples, Half-Pint took the prize with her Tiny Cow costume.
The award for Smallest Super Hero goes to Jack Jack. (His mama, Flo from Progressive, was also adorable.)
Again, we struggled with Cutest Modern Stone-Age Family. There were just too many great ones, so we settled on a tie.
Easiest Family Costume Ever goes to the Fitzgerald family as the Wiggles!
Best Use of a Continuing Theme – the Jones family in Toy Story 1 & 2
And finally, Best in Show, Micah as The Man in the Yellow Hat and Chad as Napoleon Dynamite.
There are so many others worthy of Honorable Mention. They were too good to not to share with you!

Teenage boy as Woman in Labor, younger brother as Obstetrician, golf cart decorated as an Ambulance. And their mother Linda is a Labor and Delivery Nurse in real life! She actually helped deliver Man Cub.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this little stroll through costume ideas from Halloweens past and that this year you end up will all Treats and no Tricks! For all my mamas out there, let’s just keep our eyes on the prize — Reese’s pumpkins, of course — as you press on towards the finish line. ๐
