“The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.” James 5:16b
Have you ever been in a conversation with someone who was looking around the room to see who else is there? It feels as if they’re using you as a placeholder until someone better comes along, and it’s not a fun feeling.
And yet, if I’m honest, I’m sometimes guilty of doing that to God. I talk to Him when I don’t have anything else better to do. It’s easy to get distracted by everything and everyone else, and it interferes with the conversation. I don’t prioritize talking to Him, and then I wonder why I don’t feel as connected to Him.
It’s not Him; it’s me.
Prayer is underutilized, not because God cannot hear, but because we will not speak. So even though we objectively know that prayer is powerful, do we pray like we believe it?
If you want to renew, refresh, or just reinforce your prayer life, I invite you to join us for our August Scripture Writing Plan on Powerful Prayers. You can download the free plan at the end of this post.
From Abraham and Hannah to David and Jesus, the Bible is full of prayers. Prayers that God heard. Prayers that God answered.
In fact, there are so many prayers in Scripture that our plan barely scratches the surface! But it will give you a glimpse into the power that comes with talking to God.
Along with our free Scripture writing plan, we’re offering a NEW Bible study on Powerful Prayers this month! In this series of lessons, you’ll learn about:
- Why We Pray
- Examples of Prayer
- Roadblocks to Prayer
- How to Pray
Along with the lessons, you’ll also get some beautiful graphic goodies. (See a preview when you check out the study!) You won’t even need to download the scripture writing plan from this post, because it’s already included in the study (alongside a set of scripture writing questions).
And if you’re like me, sometimes you need help remembering who or what to pray for! If that’s you, you’ll be glad to see our new printable Prayer cards. These gorgeous cards feature a verse with a corresponding prayer prompt. They are included in this month’s Bible study (and later will be added to our Etsy shop).
If you’re interested in getting ALL THREE of our 2022 studies (Powerful Prayers + Her Story, His Glory from March + The Light of the World in December) for a price break, you can find them in our Flourish Scripture Writing Extras (with other monthly goodies!) HERE.

For the next 31 days, let’s make a pact to talk to God like He’s the only one in the room. Until next time. 💗 ~Kelly
