Loving this reminder from 2016 about Kristen’s FAVORITE kind of vacations 😍:

We want to go back to Chicago because those are Great Big Feelings we felt. They were memories of eternal significance.

Too many times we Christians focus only on the FUN while we’re on vacation. After all, it’s kinda like work to find a congregation to meet with – and figure out how to travel there – and climb out of our comfort zone to meet a sea of unfamiliar faces. It’s easy to turn away from the homeless people in the big city; we’ve got to hurry and get to dinner – and then ice cream. I mean, we’re on vacation! And sometimes we can completely overlook the thousands of people in a bustling city as souls that God loves just as much as He loves us.

I’ve had those kinds of vacations, too. I’m guessing we all have.

But friends… we’ve missed out. There’s something even better to bring back home with us than rosy memories of the beach and family pictures in front of every landmark. We brought home memories of meeting some of our faraway church family, bound together by Christ’s sacrifice, and a stronger desire to serve those in need around us. We found true joy and saw a more abundant life in Christ with these souvenirs. Because… as you can imagine… good, GOOD things happen when you take God along on vacation.

Discernment. It's one of those words we see in scripture, but do we really understand (and grasp the importance) of what it means?

This month we’ll be writing verses about discerning between right and wrong, why we should pursue understanding, and the true source of wisdom. Spoiler alert: It’s the Lord. 😉

This topic is a perfect segue from Fruitful, because we can’t bear fruit if we aren’t trained to discern what is pleasing to the Lord. And let’s be honest, even “seasoned” Christians sometimes struggle with conforming to the world. We have to be diligent in transforming and renewing our minds (which leads into next month’s plan, but we’ll revisit that in July. 😉)

This past Saturday saw the 21st year of a huge fun

This past Saturday saw the 21st year of a huge fundraising event that I've helped with for 20 of those years. (Well, that blows my mind!) A Victorian Tea Party - FHU Associates raises money for student scholarships to Freed-Hardeman University, a cause near & dear to our hearts. ☕️💕

I always love to share a photo with any of the Ruffled Mango team who were there (one day we're going to get Alyssa there, too!) And share a little story time...

This year I was concerned beforehand because HALF of our steering committee couldn't attend/work the actual tea party. (Never happened before!) Since we serve 300+ guests, prepare all the food ourselves, and have all kinds of activities, this tea party is not just a little thing. It's an all-out production. Almost like planning a wedding & reception every spring. 😉

How would it all come together?? How would we find enough workers & servers?? (A problem we encounter almost every year anyway.)

I started praying about it early on - and then praying specifically about the weather when it looked like there would be rain threatening a lovely afternoon outdoors under pretty tents. I didn't know how God would answer these prayers, but I knew I looked forward to finding out. All I knew is that I didn't want to try to do this in my own strength (I've done that before and it is EXHAUSTING) but rely on the Lord.

A couple of appropriate passages popped up in my Bible readings during the last couple of months...the first being Deuteronomy 20:1-8. Yep, Deuteronomy! And yep - this section about "laws concerning warfare."

First of all, God reminded the Israelites to not fear when you see an army larger than their own, because He was the one who had brought them out of Egypt. Now, I'm not really comparing an enormous amount of tea partying ladies with a huge foreign army (maybe I am 😉) but you can see where I might draw the analogy. 4 committee members hosting 338 guests, to be exact. Hmmm...just a tad bit scary! 😳

With Kathy and Carla 😍 The episode is entitled "I See Good People" and the WHOLE thing was so worth listening to - made me cry happy tears a few times at some precious stories of Christ followers. We can be too critical sometimes; it's a lot more fun to find the positives! ❤️

I don't know about you, but strawberry season is m

I don't know about you, but strawberry season is my jam! Forgive the pun, but I really enjoy fresh strawberries. That beautiful red berry, the burst of sweetness, the stains on my fingers (and likely my shirt). It's amazing.

Interestingly, when I bite into a strawberry, it never tastes like a banana. I never mistake it for an orange, and it doesn't look like a grape. It's a strawberry. Why? Because it comes from a strawberry seed. 🍓

Much like fruit resembles its seed, our lives should bear fruit that resembles Christ. That's why we invite you to join us as we start May's Scripture Writing Plan: Fruitful.
