Over the last few years, I’ve heard God’s kingdom referred to as the “upside down kingdom,” which is so descriptive. When we look over the whole of the Bible, maybe especially the gospels, we see that played out time and time again. Jesus’s life and ministry is marked with all the things we wouldn’t have expected: a virgin birth, ordinary fishermen as His inner circle of disciples, spending time with sinners, plenty of miracles, difficult teachings, women playing an integral role in supporting & glorifying Him, a criminal death on a cross, and an actual resurrection from the dead. And why should we be surprised? Our God – the one true God – is Uncommon. He’s incredibly different from any other “god.” (And aren’t we glad?!)
And as His followers, we are called to be Uncommon as well! This month we’ll be tracing this theme throughout the old and new testaments. We’ll see so many things that help us understand our great Father and His Son better – and seeing them more clearly, we are better able to love them more wholeheartedly. Are you ready to join in??
