We have this pretty fun little tradition in our congregation’s Young Professionals group: we throw Mommy Showers for non-first-time mommies. (Is that a real term?) Of course, there’s a big church-wide shower for the first baby who arrives in a family. But the Mommy Shower is a little different. It’s usually a smaller, more intimate party – and it’s usually held at someone’s house. And while we do still gift diapers and baby clothes, there are often other kinds of offerings. Some favorites are gift cards to Sonic and the brand new Dairy Queen that’s opening in our little town Very Soon. (Well, yay!) At past showers, the mommies have received new pajamas, lotions, and bookstore gift cards in addition to the “normal” items. It’s always a nice little party that says, “Hey, Mama friend – we see how hard you work for your family and you deserve a little pampering!”
Plus, frankly, we girls love getting together. =) In the planning stages, we love to talk color schemes and food lists and paper goods. It’s pretty and it’s special – but it’s not over-the-top, as you’ll see by the pics. So it’s totally doable! (Pssst…that means you and your girls can do it, too!) We had a pink and blue color scheme this time because we had THREE mommies being honored. It’s the third child for each of them. Yay! I’m really one of the only non-mommies in my group (Hannah, come back!!), but I’m glad to be surrounded by so many FANTASTIC young moms. And I’m honored that I get to have so many little buddies. 😉 God has blessed our congregation with so many young families who are serving Him.
One of the honorees from last week’s Mommy Shower is Ashley, from The Ruffled Mango team. (She’s in the middle in this shot) She and Jason are having a boy, after having two sweet girls. Exact same story with Sarah, next to her in the blue =)
The third honoree was Ashli, in the pink, who is having a tie-breaker baby…right now, she and her husband have a boy and a girl, and everything was nice and even. But now the girls are in the lead! 😉
Our friend Sharon made the corsages for the honorees – they turned out so cute! Here’s Ashli with her sister-in-law, Melissa, who was visiting for the week.
So, a little backstory…we were supposed to gather at Sandy’s house last Tuesday night for this Mommy Shower. Just about an hour so before the party was supposed to start, a huge storm rolled through and knocked out the electricity. It happened right as I was trying to arrange the fresh flowers for the party. Ahhh!!! So I finished up the flowers sitting on the floor in front of our big kitchen window, with my husband Jeremy spotlighting the whole process with a flashlight. #helpmeet
But luckily, things cleared up pretty fast and we were able to proceed with the party. And it’s a good thing, too, because Sandy had made some ADORABLE pink and blue snacks and we wouldn’t want those to go to waste! 😉
My friend Sasha and I were in charge of décor. Sasha had made a couple of cute pom pom garlands that we used to dress up the front of the table and the chandelier. (We hated that Sasha got sick the day of the party and couldn’t come. Missed you, friend!)
I made up flower arrangements and toted over my vintage-style blue Mason jars. They were actually leftover from Keli and Kevin’s wedding, where they held bird seed and candles, and now they make perfect drinking glasses!
We got them from Amazon: Ball Jar Heritage Collection Pint Jars with Lids and Bands, Blue, Set of 6. I actually had 2 sets from the wedding and then bought a third set recently – I plan to use these for extra drinking glasses for events like this, but also for decorating around the house, too. I think they’re so super cute!! And I just realized they also have them in purple and green. What is even happening??? I did not need to know that! 😉
I’m kinda obsessed with paper straws, so these cute pink and white chevron ones from Wal-Mart were a great find! I actually purchased these first from Amazon: Ivory, Light Blue and Pink Roses Paper Straw Combo-Valentine Party Supply Wedding Bridal Shower Floral Garden 100% Biodegradable-7.75 Inches-Pack of 75 (and love them just as much in person – precious!! Can’t wait to actually use them!) but it didn’t end up matching the other pink stuff I already had. And the lids…oh, I love these daisy lids so much! Amazon has these also: Pewter Daisy Jelly Lid for Mason Jars 24 Ct
and they are darling with the blue jars and whatever paper straws I buy to match! This little combo has made appearances at several parties now and I think they’re so stinkin’ cute every single time!
Sandy made the pink/blue dipped pretzel sticks, the pink ballerina marshmallows, and the blue sprinkled Rice Krispie treats. (Thank you, Pinterest!) The brownie bites were bought at Sam’s and then topped with pink and blue icing. I totally loved that these food items were also part of the décor! Several other girls made the rest of the food and I’m telling you…everything was DELICIOUS.
We all had a wonderful time visiting and watching the mommies open gifts. I’m excited to meet these new little ones who will be arriving in the next few months!

Love this idea!
Thanks, Jamie! I wanted to share it to, hopefully, inspire other groups of ladies to celebrate the mamas. =)
Sometimes the moms get lost in the baby shuffle. Pregnancy, birth, child rearing, etc are no small feats – way to celebrate the mommy!
I’m not a mom yet, but I totally agree! So much focus on the children – it’s nice to give the moms something special, too. =)
