Discernment. It's one of those words we see in scripture, but do we really understand (and grasp the importance) of what it means?

This month we’ll be writing verses about discerning between right and wrong, why we should pursue understanding, and the true source of wisdom. Spoiler alert: It’s the Lord. 😉

This topic is a perfect segue from Fruitful, because we can’t bear fruit if we aren’t trained to discern what is pleasing to the Lord. And let’s be honest, even “seasoned” Christians sometimes struggle with conforming to the world. We have to be diligent in transforming and renewing our minds (which leads into next month’s plan, but we’ll revisit that in July. 😉)

This past Saturday saw the 21st year of a huge fun

This past Saturday saw the 21st year of a huge fundraising event that I've helped with for 20 of those years. (Well, that blows my mind!) A Victorian Tea Party - FHU Associates raises money for student scholarships to Freed-Hardeman University, a cause near & dear to our hearts. ☕️💕

I always love to share a photo with any of the Ruffled Mango team who were there (one day we're going to get Alyssa there, too!) And share a little story time...

This year I was concerned beforehand because HALF of our steering committee couldn't attend/work the actual tea party. (Never happened before!) Since we serve 300+ guests, prepare all the food ourselves, and have all kinds of activities, this tea party is not just a little thing. It's an all-out production. Almost like planning a wedding & reception every spring. 😉

How would it all come together?? How would we find enough workers & servers?? (A problem we encounter almost every year anyway.)

I started praying about it early on - and then praying specifically about the weather when it looked like there would be rain threatening a lovely afternoon outdoors under pretty tents. I didn't know how God would answer these prayers, but I knew I looked forward to finding out. All I knew is that I didn't want to try to do this in my own strength (I've done that before and it is EXHAUSTING) but rely on the Lord.

A couple of appropriate passages popped up in my Bible readings during the last couple of months...the first being Deuteronomy 20:1-8. Yep, Deuteronomy! And yep - this section about "laws concerning warfare."

First of all, God reminded the Israelites to not fear when you see an army larger than their own, because He was the one who had brought them out of Egypt. Now, I'm not really comparing an enormous amount of tea partying ladies with a huge foreign army (maybe I am 😉) but you can see where I might draw the analogy. 4 committee members hosting 338 guests, to be exact. Hmmm...just a tad bit scary! 😳

A fun surprise this week! The Ruffled Mango was mentioned on a podcast episode from Looking Up! With Kathy and Carla 😍 The episode is entitled "I See Good People" and the WHOLE thing was so worth listening to - made me cry happy tears a few times at some precious stories of Christ followers. We can be too critical sometimes; it's a lot more fun to find the positives! ❤️

I don't know about you, but strawberry season is m

I don't know about you, but strawberry season is my jam! Forgive the pun, but I really enjoy fresh strawberries. That beautiful red berry, the burst of sweetness, the stains on my fingers (and likely my shirt). It's amazing.

Interestingly, when I bite into a strawberry, it never tastes like a banana. I never mistake it for an orange, and it doesn't look like a grape. It's a strawberry. Why? Because it comes from a strawberry seed. 🍓

Much like fruit resembles its seed, our lives should bear fruit that resembles Christ. That's why we invite you to join us as we start May's Scripture Writing Plan: Fruitful.

This past Friday morning, Jeremy came back to our room at the Opryland Hotel with this story that gave me chills (and continued to give me chills every time I related it to someone else this weekend! ❤️):

He had run to the car very early that morning because he had forgotten something I needed for the Ruffled Mango booth. He came back inside and grabbed a coffee before heading back.

"I was walking down the path, enjoying my coffee...everything was peaceful and quiet, there was a light breeze, and then this verse came to my mind:
'In my Father's house, there are many rooms...' "
{John 14:2}

That truth sums up this weekend perfectly for me, and I will never forget it. There were 9,100 Christ followers (kids & adults) there at Lads to Leaders in Nashville this weekend. It was a taste of Heaven for sure.❤️

I saw so many I hadn't seen since college or camp or whatever - and I met so many new friends at our booth as well. We got to catch up with family from Chattanooga (2 of our nephews participated in the song leading event and the eldest also did speech & debate). The RM team also partnered with 3 other sweet vendors for a fun giveaway and we LOVED planning & executing this with some of our most favorite ladies!!

Another glorious highlight was having ALL FIVE of our Ruffled Mango team TOGETHER IN ONE ROOM for the FIRST time ever! 😍💕 I was giddy!! Plus, three of the Ruffled MAN-goes (the husbands 😉) got to hang out and it made me smile so big.

It's true, having a booth at this HUGE place with sooo many people was exhausting. 😉 But it's the BEST kind of tired, truly. I can't tell you how it filled me up!! The fun we had + the amount of truly meaningful conversations about Jesus and God's Word that I got to have with various people, y'all...that's my favorite thing in this world. ❤️ I know the other girls feel the same! If you were there, I'm quite sure you felt it, too. God is so good to us!
